DFI 3 Week 2

DFI 3 Week 2

My first day at the DFI course a very good experience but a seriously large amount of work covered, I kind of think I am relatively tech savvy so I could see how beginners would find the pace a bit of a scramble.

Good presentations and calm thoughtful support from Kerry and Vanessa, well done thank you very much.

Manaiakalani Learn; what does it look like in our school?
How does what we do facilitate/ enhance learning, enhance/facilitate teacher pedagogy?

Part 1 Hangouts
Great intro to something I haven't used much at all, I believe this could be a very interesting way to extend and develop some remote learning opportunities.
Part 2 Google Keep
Been using this for a while but like most things google I had no idea on the ways it can be integrated into other google applications.
Part 3 Gmail
Great opportunity to look at the ways to improve my work flow particularly managing email filters, linking emails as events  to google calendar and tasks great idea.
Part 4 Calendar
Interesting look at Google Calendar another part of the Google suite of apps well integrated and with bags of functionality. Would like to get students used to planning their work week and managing their time with this tool.
Part 5 Tabs
Organising Tabs and utilising bookmarks. Not a whole lot of learning here per say I tried the Tab organising tool Toby mini which seemed a great option for restoring your tabs but the tool loaded every time you opened a new tab which was intensely annoying.
Part 6 Hangouts in a Group
Very good session here and an app I have been wanting to use with greater understanding, I think it will be useful in the future but it almost needs a Netiqutte lesson all to itself, particularly reminding people that they are still visible even when the sound is muted.

Reflection.
Overall a pretty intensive day with lots of little its glaened and reworked. I would like to run this DFI program with my students, particularly the workflow ideas and linking this to managing themselves online, invaluable to start this early I believe.

  1. Great reflections Mark. Lovely to see what you have taken away from today. I like your idea about running your own DFI for your students, in particular focusing on the self-management online. I would love to know how to unfolds in your classroom.
